and come to a conclusion. I want a Mac.
You may wonder why I'd want one, because surely a Windows-based machine can preform just as well?
There are some things I would like to point out:
A Mac looks good
I know, I know, this sounds like a pointless point, but I believe that it is relaxing if the macihne is aesthetically pleasing.
You end up having your focus on the work you're doing, and not on the squirky lid, the crazy hot touchpad or the screws that keep falling out.
At the same time you get the proper sturdy feeling when you're working on a Mac, something I've missed with PCs for years.
A Mac rarely crashes
But that does not mean a Mac never crahses or hangs. The fact that I don't have to fear a sudden BSOD, strange system-errors and such alike. I've been a PC-user all my life and I know how frustrating it can be when your system halts while you're working on something important. The safety a Mac gives is something I know will give more focus on the actual work being done on the machine, rather than on the machine itself.
Macs are industry-standard
Or at least they used to be. I heard that it's now about 50-50 with design-companies and the use of Mac vs PC. Even though this is the case, Apple were still the first ones who presented the term "Desktop Publishing" back in 1985, and Photoshop was still originally created for the Mac.
So there are definetly a lot of good things to say about Apple's Mac, but there's never light without darkness.
When I think of it, there is maninly one negative thing about Mac-machines - the price:
Macs are expensive
This is something important. Being a student I don't have the world's best income, and when Apple offers Macbooks that start at around $2 650 (in Norway), it's obvious that I'd rather go for something cheaper and more powerful. Because I can usually get other laptop-models that are a lot more powerful than a Mac, and still save money.
Now, if Apple had done their job better and offered either a better price or a proper financial-solution for the Mac, I'd definetly go for one.
I'm no gamer. I've never been one and I don't think I'll ever be. Therefore, the fact that you can't really play many games on the Mac doesn't bother me much. I'm a design-student, I don't have the need of playing games. That's something I leave my Xbox to do.
The only thing remaining for me now is actually getting the machine, something I hope will happen before the end of the year.
At the very end I would like to invite you to share your experiences. Own a Mac and have pros and cons? Switched from a PC to Mac and never looked back? Is the Mac really worth the money? You are very welcome to tell.![]()

Moistened by the dew of the night, bathed in the light of the sun, the white flowers strive to live their lives to the fullest, beautifying the town as if striving to live out the portion of life denied to those whose tomorrows were snatched away from them forever.
